Utilising his many years of accumulated knowledge and love of nature Michael attempts to draw out the character and spirit of the animals he paints.
 This painting captures the rugged soul of the Black Rhinos that survive in the glare and the harsh conditions experienced in Etosha, Namibia. With the black rhino on the brink of extinction the soul of the animal which the Zulu call idlozi cannot die only the body dies. To die is not to dissolve into nothingness.
