Bird Portraits

Birds are a favourite subject of Michaels, especially doing them as portraits. "My bird portraits are not scientifically acurate as I am more interested in capturing the character and personality of the subject".

Guinea Fowl No 5

A more contemporary fun portrait of this comical fowl. R1 200.00 Acrylic on canvas 610 x 460mm

Helmeted Guinea Fowl No 6

The very distinctive head of the Guinea fowl and one of my favourite characters. R2 500.00 Acrylic on canvas 610 x 460mm

Blue crane

The very elegant SA National bird sun light on an otherwise overcast Cape day. R6000.00 Oil on canvas

Hamerkop

Busy little bird often seen along rivers and wetland areas. A very unusual but interesting head to paint. In this painting I have made her very important and businesslike. R2200 Acrylic on canvas 800 x 600mm

Pied Kingfisher

The quick and dead. A flash of brilliance is the kingfisher. (SOLD)

Yellow Hornbill

A loose brushstroked 'impressionist' painting of this distinctive and colourful bird contrasting against dense African bushveld. The intensity and focus of the painting is around the eye. (SOLD)

Ground Hornbill

One of Southern Africa's most endangered birds. A huge bird mostly seen walking. I've tried to capture the arrogance of this male. (SOLD)

Guineafowl

The surrounding neighbourhoods of Cape Town are alive with flocks of these colourful and noisy characters. This one stops momentarily. (SOLD)

Secretary Bird

A ghostly figure moving before the approaching storm. One of my more detailed paintings. (SOLD)

Kirstenbosch Guineafowl-1

The very distinctive head of the Guineafowl and one of my favourite characters. (SOLD)

Ground Hornbill 2

One of Southern Africa's most endangered birds. This male walks with one eye on the viewer while an African storm builds on the horizon. (SOLD)

Kirstenbosch Guineafowl-2

In this painting the medieval helmet is combined with the determined look. (SOLD)

Vulturine Guineafowl

A native to central Africa this portrait has a very judgemental look to it. (SOLD)

Goliath Heron

His piercing eye and dagger beak, cocked ready to strike. (SOLD)

Southern Cassowary

Commission for Omega Parque Jardim Zoologico in Portugal. (SOLD)

Sacred Ibis

Portrait of one of the most beautiful of the ibis birds. (SOLD)
